About

Our Lady of Lourdes refers to the Virgin Mary, specifically as she is believed to have appeared in the town of Lourdes, France, in the 19th century. The story of Our Lady of Lourdes centers on a young girl named Bernadette Soubirous, who claimed to have witnessed several apparitions of the Virgin Mary in 1858. According to Bernadette’s accounts, Mary appeared to her in a grotto near the town, known as the Grotto of Massabielle. During these apparitions, Mary conveyed messages of prayer, penance, and the importance of faith.

The site of these apparitions, the Grotto of Massabielle, has since become a major pilgrimage destination for Catholics and a center of devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes. It is known for its miraculous healings and is closely associated with the concept of spiritual and physical healing. The water from a spring that emerged at the grotto is believed by many to have curative properties, and pilgrims often come to Lourdes seeking both spiritual solace and physical recovery. Our Lady of Lourdes is celebrated on February 11th each year, marking the feast day of the apparitions, and continues to be an important figure in Catholic Marian devotion.
